However, a 77th minute try saved the Hurricanes from defeat. The Hurricanes heading into the game, had won the last two meetings between the two sides at Estadio José Amalfitani in Buenos Aires.
The Canes were the first to score. Repeated penalties resulted led to the Canes going up 3-0. Jordie Barrett, nailed a monster penalty kick from 60m out in the 5th minute of the game. Repeated infringements from the Hurricanes resulted in Domingo Miotti levelling the scores for the Jaguares in the 15th minute of the game.
The Jaguares were the first team to score a try in the game with Marcos Kremer going over the chalk in the 22nd minute. A lovely pass from Tomas Cubelli and short pass from the impressive Domingo Miotti put Kremer over the try line. Miotti converted the try. The Jaguares led 10-3.
Jordie Barrett converted another penalty to reduce the lead to 4 points in the 26th minute. After the Jaguares conceded a turnover and gave away a penalty, Jordie Barrett made it 3/3 with the penalties. The score read 10-9 in the 33rd minute.

Domingo Miotti missed the chance to make the score 13-9 heading into half-time. He missed the drop goal opportunity, and the score was 10-9 at the halftime hooter in favour of the Jaguares. Both sides applied solid pressure, resulting in decent attacking and defensive periods of play.
The Jaguares increased the lead to 4 points thanks to Domingo Miotti penalty in the 44th minute. Jordie Barrett again pegged it back for the Hurricanes, making the score 13-12 in favour of the Jaguares in the 48th minute. Again, the Hurricanes gave away a penalty, this time for a late tackle off the ball. Miotti slotted his 3rd penalty for the game in the 53rd minute. Jaguares led 16-12 at this stage of the game.
Jordie Barrett saved a try in the 58th minute by grabbing Boffeli’s foot and ensuring that Boffelli’s foot touched the touchline before he grounded the ball over the try line. The referee awarded a penalty to the Jaguares as the Hurricanes were offside. The Jaguares then scored a try of a strong driving maul. Argentine veteran, Agustin Creevy scored the try for the Jaguares in the 62nd minute and Domingo Miotti slotted the conversion. Score, 23-12.
With the team 11 points down heading into the final 15 minutes, the Hurricanes needed to score sooner rather than later. Alex Fidow scored a vital try at a crucial stage of the game in the 71st minute. Jackson Garden-Bachop converted the try with the score reading 23-19.
3 minutes away from full-time, Jamie Booth scored the match-winning try. The Canes made a clean break and Ngani Laumape assisted Booth for the match-winning try. Hurricanes ended up with their first victory of the season. This was the Hurricanes third straight victory against the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.
For the Hurricanes, Wes Goosen made 8 carries for 79 metres, beat 2 defenders, made 1 clean break and 2 passes and 3 tackles. Isaia Walker-Leawere made 8 carries for 10 metres, beat 2 defenders, made 5 passes, 2 offloads and 15 tackles. Ngani Laumape made 8 carries for 65 metres, beat 8 defenders, made 4 clean breaks, 8 passes, 2 offloads and 2 tackles.
For the Jaguares, Emiliano Boffelli made 16 carries for 123 metres, beat 3 defenders, made 7 clean breaks, 4 passes, 1 offload and 6 tackles. Marcos Kremer scored 1 try, made 16 carries for 36 metres, beat 2 defenders, made 1 clean break, 2 passes and 18 tackles for the game. Domingo Miotti made 9 carries for 57 metres, beat 2 defenders, 25 passes and 8 tackles.
Next week, the Hurricanes play the Sharks at Sky Stadium, Wellington, which will be their first home game for the year. The Jaguares play the Queensland Reds next week at the Estadio José Amalfitani in Buenos Aires.
